I agree - we need to start modernizing our databases and start using null capable fields where appropriate. Most RPG developers have been avoiding them because RPG doesn't support them very well. So instead we do things like set the initial value of Shipped Date to '0001-01-01' to represent a Null Date when the order has not yet been shipped. I would like to see RPG get better null support. Give us the ability to compare a field to null with an IF statement or set it to null with an EVAL statement. And make that work with all fields - program described, externally described files, and SQL accessed fields.
