Great story about the VIO (non-)migration. Glad it wasn't me.

By the way, there is no migrateios command on the VIOS. You can check your VIOS version using ioslevel command (log in as padmin). To migrate the VIO server from version 1.X to 2.X, the DVD migration procedure is here

As VIOS 1.X is based on AIX 5.3, and VIOS 2.X runs on AIX 6.1, I would have thought the updateios command with the wrong DVD would be like running update_all on an AIX 5.3 system using an AIX 6.1 DVD. Doesn't the system just say "wrong media, go away"? Apparently not.
