Big Iron: The Mainframe Story

Whether you've been around as long as the mainframe itself or you're just getting started with the platform, I think you'll love the new documentary, "Big Iron: The Mainframe Story (so far)."

The 33-minute video, which is co-presented by CA Mainframe Chorus and IBM Systems Magazine, chronicles the mainframe's origins and storied history and offers a glimpse into its bright future. Experts, historians and others help tell the story. (In the interest of disclosure I work for CA Technologies.)

What I especially enjoyed about the documentary is that it's segmented into specific time periods: The Beginning, The 1970s, The 1980s and 1990s, The 2000s, and 2010 and Beyond. You can either watch the entire documentary in one sitting or you can view it in shorter segments. Each of the five segments is a treat on its own.

I hope you'll check out this video if you haven't already. And if you have seen it, please register your thoughts in comments.
