Thank You for the feedback re: my overcoded SQL alternative.

Good point about opening the PF for the CHAIN, I was also letting RPG open it automatically before I started timing. I changed that and CHAIN now takes .001s and SQL is still at .5s. That is only for a single IO, but there is no way SQL can catch up from that kind of deficit. I looped both 255 times and SQL was still almost 40 times slower.

@Jeanne - Not at all "overcoded" - I thought it was an excellent approach and thought it would have been fast, since the requirements could be met directly from the index - no need to touch the table. Sadly it did not turn out that way. But then SQL often surprises me like that.
